FINAL PROJECT : Silent Movie Audio

Week 11:

6.11.20

For our final project, we are required to do sound foley for a silent movie of our choice. Mr. Razif gave us a series of silent movie clips to choose from, and we are required to create the sounds from the movies.

After giving some consideration I decided to work on the silent film called "The General".

Week 12:

Before we start recording, Mr. Razif introduced us to audio storyboard. This would help ease our process of recording and help us organize and identify the exact sounds that would be needed in the scenes.

Week 13:

I spent most of this week experimenting and recording, It required so much effort but at least I found that the final result wasn't really bad despite the fact that I had to record using only my phone + using the basic equipment provided and found at home. Also I'm currently staying alone at the house so house was really calm along with the fact that I chose to record everything at night which made the sounds even better.

These are some of the items used to replicate the sound:

Opening and closing windows - A drawer sound

Footsteps in rain - Wet cloth in a washing bowl filled with water

Whistling and Women scream - By me :)

Wood creaking - Shacking the bed frame

Wooden dowel hitting the ground - Hit my head on a wooden table =')

Hitting sound - Cardboard tube hitting a towel

As for the rain and lightning sound, I recorded the live audio of the rain sound as it has been raining quite a lot these days I manage to get the recording after leaving my phone for about 20min at the backyard under a dry spot. Surprisingly the sound turned of better that what I expect as I was also happy that I managed to record the sound of few strong lightnings.

Week 14:

This week I edited and cleaned up all the recordings by using adobe audition which was a very enjoyable process to do specially after getting to see how I was actually able to make this silent clip come to live after putting all these sounds together.
