PROJECT 2 : Audio Storytelling

For this project we are required to pick one popular fairy-tale story of our choice and create and audiobook. The task is a step up from auditory imaging whereby now the students not only need to think about suitable soundscape, but they need to record the voice with the suitable voice acting and bring it all together with sound effects to highlight and enhance the storytelling experience. Imagine that this is a show for radio. 

Week 8

(16.10.20)

We had to start working on the project starting from this week, as we had to choose the Fairy-Tale we want to work on, write the script, find the needed sounds effects, and video or a slideshow we are going to use for the final output.

The fairy-tale I chose was "Beauty & The Beast" I picked the first part of the movie then wrote the script I will be recording later.

The Script:

Once upon a time, in a faraway land, a young prince lived in a shining castle. Although he had everything his heart desired, the prince was spoiled, selfish, and unkind. But then, one winter’s night, an old beggar woman came to the castle and offered him a single rose in return for shelter from the bitter cold. Repulsed by her haggard appearance, the prince sneered at the gift and turned the old woman away, “ Don’t be fooled by the appearance”, She warned him “There is beauty to be found within all things”. And when he dismissed her again, the old woman’s ugliness melted away to reveal a beautiful enchantress. The prince tried to apologize, but it was too late, for she had seen that there was no love in his heart, and as punishment, she transformed him into a hideous beast, and placed a powerful spell on the castle, and all who lived there. Ashamed of his monstrous form, the beast concealed himself inside his castle, with a magic mirror as his only window to the outside world. The rose she had offered was truly an enchanted rose, which would bloom until his 21st year. If he could learn to love another, and earn her love in return by the time the last petal fell, then the spell would be broken. If not, he would be doomed to remain a beast for all time. As the years passed, he fell into despair, and lost all hope, for who could ever learn to love a beast?

Week 9

(23.10.20)

After getting the approval about the story from Mr Razif I can recording the audio. First, I listened to the original narrator from the movie and studied his voice tone, the way he put emotions in certain lines and how every word was so clear and loud. 

Therefore, I recorded each line separately because I wanted to give a good acting with a clear voice so the final outcome would sound strong and good from the begging to the end plus the I can edit and add the effects needed for each part as not the whole thing should sound exactly the same. Then I looked for suitable sound effects that will match certain parts and scenes of the slide show like : Thunder, tearing paper sound, water flow, birds sounds, etc... and starting editing everything using Adobe Audition.

Week 10

This week was the submission week, So I had to finalize everything, edit and fix any problem if there was one and finally compile the final audio with the video to get the desired outcome.
