LECTURE NOTES:

Lecture 5: Letter Forms
3/5/19 (Week 5)

In this week's lecture, our topic was to understand letterforms. Some uppercase letters may seem like they are symmetrical but intact aren't which is why each one looks internally harmonious and individually expressive.

It is important to develop a sensitivity towards the counter forms of letters as they are key to making the overall letterform look good and easily readable.

Lecture 6: Cancelled

10/5/19 (Week 6)

Mr Vinod and Mr Shamsul didn't give us lecture this week so we can fix all the mistakes we made in our blog and then we had to continue working on our first project.

INSTRUCTIONS:

PROJECT 1:

For our first project, we were told to use Adobe "InDesign" to create A4 page booklet based on an graphic design articlehttp://www.eyemagazine.com/feature/article/first-things-first-manifesto-2000.
we had to represent the meaning behind the article through the 9 typefaces he gave at the beginning of the semester.

 Fig1.2: 1st attempt

Fig1.3: 2nd attempt

Fig1.4: 3rd attempt

Fig1.5: 4th attempt

After showing Mr Vinod my 4th attempt he said that adding boxes, lines or anything that doesn't have a meaning behind it will make the design look stupid and it will be so confusing to the eye to focus on one thing.
He also told me to change the "W" in the second page to a lowercase letter so i can get rid of the created space between the 'w' and 'e'.

I did some adjustments with changing what Mr Vinod to me to change.

FEEDBACK

Week 5:
General Feedback: Images should be in good quality, our blog should be finalized by next week.

Specific Feedback: there wasn't any specific feedback because i was only sketching some ideas for the project.

Week 6:
General feedback:Mr Vinod didn't like 80% of the blogs and he told us that we should take blogs more seriously because it can cause us to fail.

Specific Feedback: Mr vinod told me to change the theme and the blog's title font to something that can be easily read and how the background should be white or light gray , he also told me to make the size of the added pictures larger and to pay more attention to the space between lines. For the project Mr Vinod told me to decrease the line in the first page because they look useless and to arrange paragraphs in a correct way on the second page.

REFLECTION

Experiences

(Week 5): We had to try to use Adobe InDesign for the first time.
(Week 6):I had the chance to fix so much mistakes i did in my blog.

Observation

(Week 5): Using InDesign was so different from using Photoshop and Illustrator.
(Week 6):A lot of the students had hard time expressing the topic through their design.

Findings

(Week 5): Using InDesign was harder than i though.
(Week 6):It was hard to put put out the ideas i had in my head.

FURTHER READINGS:

Week (5-6):

Fig2.1: stop stealing sheep & find out how type works

This book started with giving an introduction about what type is, how it is a fundamental part of our lives and how there is a purpose behind the used typyface, it also showed how we can use each type depending on a few basic principles and finally the way to put it in work.
The writer wanted to clarify that typography is a language and a way of communication for people who want to communicate more effectively with type.
